ATARASHIIROCKET CORPs, the buzz of Pokémon related monopoly, and whose headquarters rests in the heart of Matsu City. Have a master ball? They helped make it. Are connected to the Pokémon Centers personally? ARCORPs funds those busy scientists who watch over the satellites that keep your internet from dying and your computer from getting a smack. Registering for the Leagues? Guess who hosts it under the table. Yes, ATARASHIIROCKET is Matsunoki blueblood, and represents the Who's Who in corporate Japan. With the government like putty in their hands, they enjoy a seat of power and prestige that rides on the backs of trainers.
Beneath their smiles and good publicity lies TEAM ROCKET, a crime syndicate that went under radar nearly a decade in the past. Working towards a hostile take-over of Matsunoki region, they sabotage trainers throughout the world over, and smuggle Pokémon with a grin and a tip of the hat. In short: right bastards, and proud of it. Their ambitions stretch far and wide, and their TEAM ROCKET members swamp the countryside and inner city—no police force has the support to rise against them, and the trainers? Well, they head for Matsu City's closest exit route, of course.
Yet, there is hope. There is always hope, and Matsunoki Region's is the rival company of ANION TECHNOLOGIES. The big, the old, and the bad, they are the grandaddy of ATARASHIIROCKET CORPs, and these two kings once shook hands as business partners. However, following the death of their CEO yes-man and business head, AT has been handed off to his son. Despite bitter resistance from all sides, he's grown infamous for being charming, forward-thinking, and clever as a business leader. Nonetheless, there are rumors that a second son—illegitimate, at that—was involved in a NEOGENESIS project, and went missing prior to their split from ANION TECHNOLOGIES. His spokespeople insist that there is no such boy, although perhaps even more curious than this is the string of Pokémon related terrorist incidents that have been traced to AT.
Caught in the middle are the Gym leaders and the Rangers, who protest the mistreatment of Pokémon at the hands of TEAM ROCKET, and finally the Elite Four. With the current Champion resigning from his position, they are eager to wrestle their way to the top of the arena—but a fresh, talented group of novice trainers leave them wondering where exactly they stand.
